Ketchup

Three tomatoes are walking down the street: Poppa tomato, Momma tomato, and Baby tomato. Baby tomato starts lagging behind and Poppa tomato gets really angry; goes back and squishes him, says, “Ketchup.” — Pulp Fiction

I found this stunning food mill on craigslist for a steal of a deal:

And made this:

Homemade ketchup!

Using these lovely tomatoes from the farmer’s market:

And this recipe.  OK, sort of.  Alright, alright.  I mostly winged it (as I am wont to do in the kitchen).  Here’s what I really used:

~ 40 oz. or so of heirloom tomatoes

~ 1 small onion

~ 1 shallot

~ 3 cloves of garlic

~ olive oil for sautéing

~ 1 can tomato paste

~ 1/2 cup agave nectar (light)

~ 1 tbsp molasses

~ 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

~ 1/4 cup red wine vinegar

~ salt to taste

~ dash of Sriacha rooster sauce

~ couple dashes of paprika

~ splash of dark soy sauce

~ splash or two of Worcestershire sauce

Hmm…. there might’ve been other ingredients I threw in, but it appears I stopped taking notes…

(Dad says it’s good, which says a lot.  He says it’s like how ketchup used to taste, and that it’s much better than store-bought.)
